Vegan House in How Chi Minh

A few years ago, I spent a month traveling around Vietman. Since then, I visited many other places but that trip is the one I treasure the most. Twenty years ago Vietnam wasn't a well-trodden destination; we traveled from South to North by local transports (most of which pretty unsafe I suppose) and we saw many heartbreaking places, we met many generous smiley calm people despite the poverty and overall we had an unforgivable life-changing experience. 

Since then every time I see, read or hear something regarding Vietnam I feel a warm sensation inside. I would love to take Alex and Giulio there some day hoping that a broader tourism haven't spoiled the magic there.

When I saw this quirky Vegan House in How Chi Minh, I was fascinated straight away, and not only because it is in Vietnam. 

When the owner of this three floors house decided to restore this building to offer people a place where cook and taste the best Vietnamese dishes, he had already a collection of old shutters and furniture. Block Architects, in charge of the project, put all these ingredients together to create a place  perfect for socializing.
The old shutters inject some colour in the space and it is a sort of texture contrasting with the clean interiors.

It makes me wanting to go back even more!

Qualche anno fa, ho viaggiato per un mese in Vietnam. Da allora, ho visitato molti altri posti ma quel viaggio mi è rimasto nel cuore. 

Vent'anni fa il Vietnam non era una destinazione molto battuta; abbiamo viaggiato da Sud a Nord con trasporti locali (molti dei quali non proprio sicuri) e abbiamo visto dei posti che ti toglievano il respiro, incontrato persone generose, sorridenti e calme nonostante la povertà e nel complesso è stata un'esperienza che mi ha cambiato la vita. 

Da allora ogni volta che vedo, leggo o sento qualcosa che riguarda il Vietnam, sento un calore nel cuore. Mi piacerebbe tornarci con Alex e Giulio sperando che un turismo più diffuso non abbia rovinato la magia del posto. 

Non sorprende quindi che quando ho visto la Vegan House a How Chi Minh, ne sono stata subito affascinata e non solo perchè è in Vietnam. 

Quando il proprietario ha deciso di ristrutturare questa costruzione per offrire un posto dove la gente possa cucinare e assaggiare i migliori piatti Vietnamesi, aveva già una collezione di vecchie persiane ed arredi. Block Architects ha usato questi ingredienti e ha creato uno spazio perfetto per socializzare, dedicato alla cucina vietnamita, che di base è vegana. 

L'uso delle vecchie persiane è funzionale, aggiunge colore e diventa quasi un tessuto a contrasto con interni molto puliti e lineari. 

Mi fa venire ancora più voglia di tornare!
