The fabulous world of Mr and Mrs Toledo

I've been coming across all these charming and talented personalities in their fifties or older (like Vivienne Westwood) who after years of working on their personal creative ideas, have  finally been granted fame. 

Having turned forty this year, I find it really motivating (and reassuring). 

It inspires me to carry on my path, to keep focusing on what I am doing and not on the recognition this could or should earn me.

The first time I saw some photos of Isabel and Ruben Toledo I thought that they couldn't be real. 

They have such cool sounding names, they look so fashionable and in love, they produce such interesting art and fashion, they live and work in such a fascinating space that  they could be characters in a Fifties inspired romantic movie. 

Both born in Cuba in 1961, they have been together for over thirty years, proving that creative love lasts. Ruben's illustrations are often the perfect background for Isabel's clothes (worn also by Mrs Obama).  

I will definitely get "Roots of Style" a book about the life, work and passions of Isabel Toledo illustrated by her husband Ruben; I will let you know what it is like!

Recentemente mi imbatto (virtualmente) in tutti questi ammalianti e talentuosi personaggi di cinquant'anni o più (come Vivienne Westwood), che dopo anni di persistenza nel portare aventi il loro discorso creativo, hanno raggiunto la fama. 

Visto che ho raggiunto i quarant'anni quest'anno, lo trovo di grande ispirazione (e conforto).  Mi motiva a proseguire per la mia strada concentrandomi su quello che sto facendo e non solo sul ritorno che quello che sto facendo mi potrebbe o dovrebbe dare.
La prima volta che ho visto delle foto di Isabel e Ruben Toledo ho pensato che fossero finti. 

Hanno dei nomi che suonano così bene, sono così stilosi e innamorati, producono vestiti e illustrazioni così interessanti, vivono in uno spazio così affascinante che non potevano non essere usciti da un film romantico di inspirazione anni '50. 

Nati entrambi a Cuba nel 1961, stanno insieme da oltre 30 anni a prova che l'amore creativo dura a lungo. Le illustrazioni di Ruben fanno spesso da sfondo ai vestiti di Isabel (indassati, fra l'altro, dalla Signora Obama). 

Comprerò sicuramente "Roots of Style", un libro sulla vita, la moda e le passioni di Isabel Toledo, illustrato da suo marito.
