The familiar world of Vito Nesta

Tonight I really feel like starting my new book "The beautiful fall - Fashion, Genius and Glorious Excess in 1970s Paris" by Alicia Drake. I am going to lay in bed, try to move as little as possible to stop sweating (it is 35 degrees here) and enter the magic world of  Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfield, the epitome of creativity, two elegant creatures who managed to be prolific for a lifetime because they fed their minds with art and culture, not just fashion. 

Even if I don't know him yet (by the way, I would love to meet you Vito, fancy a coffee next time I come to Milan?), I believe that Vito Nesta, the talent that designed the beautiful objects below, is a person who has something to say as well.  

His creations speak about a world that is disappearing in Italy but it is still part of our families, even if it is not in practice it lives on in the memory; it is a world where things were done slowly and properly, where things were repaired and not replaced. Thimbles, reels, balls of yarn, combs, shaving brushes, buttons are all part of the magic world of Vito Nesta. 

In his hands every day objects become evocative designs in trendy colors. 

My favourite? The nut and the thimble,  they went directly onto my wish list.

Stasera voglio cominciare il mio nuovo libro "The beautiful fall - Fashion, Genius and Glorious Excess in 1970s Paris" di Alicia Drake. Mi voglio stendere a letto, muovendomi quanto meno possibile per non sudare (ci sono 35 gradi qui) ed entrare il magico mondo di Yves Saint Laurent e Karl Lagerfield, l'epitome della creatività, due creature eleganti che hanno saputo mantenersi prolifiche per tutta la vita perchè hanno nutrito le loro menti con arte e culura, non solo moda. 

Anche se non l'ho ancora incontrato (a proposito, mi piacerebbe conoscerti Vito; ti va un caffè la prossima volta che vengo a Milano?), sono convinta che  Vito Nesta, il talento che ha disegnato i bellissimi oggetti qui sotto, è  anche lui una persona con molto da dire. 

Le sue creazioni raccontano un mondo che sta sparendo in Italia ma che è ancora parte delle nostre famiglie, se non nei fatti nella memoria; è un mondo dove le cose venivano fatte lentamente e bene, dove gli oggetti venivano riparati e non sostituiti. Ditali, rocchetti, gomitoli, pettini, pennelli da barba, bottoni sono parte del magico mondo di Vito Nesta. 

Per sua mano gli oggetti di uso quotidiano diventano oggetti di design evocativi in colori alla moda. 

I miei preferiti? La noce e il ditale, sono già nella mia lista dei desideri.
