A place to escape: Gino Haddad's summer retreat

By the end of June Rome and its inhabitants reach a state of dreamy lethargy. Everybody seems to be slower and tired like at dawn after an eventful night out. The chaotic pace of the city life, an everyday routine based on contradictions, the increasing heat make people light headed; after two pm on Friday it is difficult to have anything done and the streets get quieter. We all crave and dream some holiday retreats amongst nature or facing the sea. I am not exception; this year, after many summers spent travelling, I am going for two weeks in Sardinia, in one of the most enchanting place in Italy. 

The house pictured in this post -where, I am sure, most of us would love to spend some time- is on the Lebanese coast, one hour off Beirut. Gino Haddad, the owner had the villa built in 2012/2013 and he decorated it with the help of interior designer Charles Hadife. Haddad took inspiration from Marco De Luca, the gentle author of one of my favourite project ever, the Hotel La Minervetta. What makes this simple structure special is the vibrancy of the re-current blue and the collections of traditional objects scattered around, like the blue pharmacy bottles and the antique religious images in the bedroom. It is a shame that Gino Haddad's doens't allow him to spend in this amazing place only very short periods of time; he should take into consideration renting it to us, poor lethargic creatures of the city.

Verso la fine di Giugno, Roma e i suoi abitanti raggiungono uno stato di letargia onirica. Tutti sembrano essere più lenti e stanchi come all'alba dopo una notte ricca di eventi. Il passo caotico della vita di città, una routine quotidiana basata sulle contraddizioni, il crescente caldo rendono la gente distratta; dopo le due del pomeriggio di venerdì, è difficile concludere qualcosa e le strade si tranquillizzano. Tutti noi bramiamo e sognamo luoghi di vacanza in mezzo alla natura o sul mare. Io non sono eccezione; quest'anno infatti, dopo tanti anni di viaggi lontani e due estati di montagna, andrò due mesi in Sardegna, in uno dei posti più incantevoli d'Italia. 

La casa raffigurata in questo post  -dove, ne sono sicura, la maggiorparte di voi passerebbe ben volentieri un pò di tempo- è sulla costa libanese, ad un'ora da Beirut. Gino Haddad, il proprietario, l'ha fatta costruire nel 2012/2013 ed arredata con l'aiuto dell'interior designer Charles Hadife. Ha preso ispirazione dal lavoro di Marco De Luca, quel signore gentile che ha firmato, fra l'altro, uno dei miei progetti preferiti di sempre, l'Hotel La Minervetta. 

Quello che rende questa semplice struttura speciale è la ricorrente vibrazione blu e le collezione di oggetti tradizionali sparse qua e là, come le bottiglie blu da farmacia e le antiche icone nella camera da letto. E' un peccato che Gino Haddad sia così impegnato da riuscire a passare in questo incantevole rifugio solo brevissimi periodi di tempo. Dovrebbe considerare l'ipotesi di affittarla a noi, povere letargiche creature di città.
