This the period of selfies. I used to take pictures of myself everyday in 2005 and my friends used to call me a narcissist; now Facebook, WhatsUp etc. are invaded by photos of people smiling, eating, mainly posing, trying to show the world what a fabulous interesting life they have got and how good looking -or at least not bad looking- they are. All this is accompanied by dozens of pictures of kids, dishes, places, pets, shoes. It is a generation that needs continuous confirmations, a generation that craves appearing cool. Sometimes it is fun, sometimes it is boring. When it is too much, it is too much.
Sometimes, though, posting a picture of yourself can be gracious and part of a viral movement that somehow manages to spread unconsciously a subtle message. It's the case of one of the latest trend that sees men embellishing their beards with flowers. A part from the fact that some of the photos are very pretty (and their subjects), this concept suggests the idea that genders are more fluid now, less divided. Men are not afraid to wear flowers anymore. Not even in their masculine beards. Transsexuals are not to wear beards. Some gays are more masculine than some heterosexuals I know and being bi-sexual is considered not just normal but actually clever. Thank God this is the trend because the division between genders had became really boring.
Questo è il periodo dei selfies. Io me ne facevo uno al giorno nel 2005 ed i miei amici mi davano della narcisista; adesso Facebook, WhatsUp ecc. sono invasi da foto di gente che sorride, mangia, fondamentalmente sta in posa, cercando di dimostrare al mondo che vita favolosa e interessante ha e quanto è attraente -o almeno non repellente. Tutto questo è accompagnato da decine di foto di bambini, piatti, posti, animali domestici, scarpe. E' una generazione che ha bisogno di conferme continue, una generazione che smania di apparire cool. A volte è divertente, a volte è noioso. Quando è troppo è noioso, a mio avviso.
In alcuni casi però una fotografia di te stesso puo' essere piacevole e parte di un movimento virale che inconsapevolmente diffonde un messaggio sottile. E' il caso di uno degli ultimi trend che vede uomini imbellirsi la barba con dei fiori. A parte il fatto che alcune delle foto sono molto carine (e i suoi soggetti), questo concept suggerisce l'idea che i generi sono molto più fluidi adesso, meno settoriali. Gli uomini non sono più restii ad indossare fiori. Neanche nelle cosi' maschili barbe. I transessuali non sono più riluttante ad avere la barba. Alcuni omosessuali sono più maschili di alcuni eterosessuali che conosco ed essere bi-sessuale non solo è considerato ormai normale ma anzi intelligente.
Meno male che il trend è questo perchè questa separazione dei generi era diventata proprio noiosa.
